Mayday Soundtrack (2026): Every Song & Scene Description
Set at the height of the Cold War, Mayday is an action-packed buddy comedy that follows hotshot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly (Ryan Reynolds) after his top-secret reconnaissance mission deep inside Soviet territory goes catastrophically wrong. Stranded behind enemy lines with minimal resources, his survival hinges on an unlikely alliance with Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh), a gruff former KGB operative who harbors a secret affection for American pop culture and food. Together, this mismatched duo must transform a lethal standoff into a begrudging partnership to evade the Red Army and orchestrate an impossible escape back home.
The 2026 action-comedy Mayday pairs U.S. Navy pilot Troy 'Assassin' Kelly (Ryan Reynolds) with an unlikely Soviet ally (Kenneth Branagh) deep behind Cold War enemy lines, framed by a high-energy, nostalgic soundtrack. Reflecting the East-versus-West tension with sharp humor, the film's musical palette clashes iconic American 1980s radio anthems against traditional Soviet-era classics, highlighting the cultural friction and budding camaraderie between its mismatched leads.
The soundtrack boasts a heavyweight selection of classic arena rock and new wave hits. Neil Diamond's triumphant anthem 'America' leads the film's promotional trailer, while the soundtrack features three iconic Bruce Springsteen tracks, 'Dancing in the Dark,' 'I'm On Fire,' and 'Downbound Train.' Fitting for Kelly's high-flying naval persona, Kenny Loggins' legendary Top Gun anthem 'Danger Zone' injects vintage adrenaline into the action, balanced by Van Halen's synth-rock staple 'Jump' and Animotion's pulsating 'Obsession'.
