Days of Thunder Soundtrack (1990): All Songs & Scene Music Guide
Talented but unproven stock car driver Cole Trickle gets a break and with the guidance of veteran Harry Hogge turns heads on the track. The young hotshot develops a rivalry with a fellow racer that threatens his career when the two smash their cars. But with the help of his doctor, Cole just might overcome his injuries-- and his fear.
Tony Scott’s 1990 NASCAR drama Days of Thunder matches the high-octane adrenaline of stock car racing with an equally powerful arena rock and pop soundtrack. Produced during the peak of the Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster era, the film features an original score by Hans Zimmer alongside massive vocal tracks from icons like Tina Turner, Elton John, and Cher.
The movie's racing sequences and dramatic personal rivalries are defined by standout rock needle drops. Chicago’s 'Hearts In Trouble' plays as Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall) gives advice to Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) at a bar, while Apollo Smile's energetic 'Thunderbox' soundtracks the infamous rental car race on Daytona Beach. Guns N' Roses' cover of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' also provides a somber backdrop to Cole’s recovery.
