The Cars

The Cars were a seminal American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1976. They emerged as archetypal pioneers of the New Wave movement by effortlessly merging the raw energy of proto-punk and glam with polished, hook-driven synthesizer pop and classic rock. Led by primary songwriter and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek alongside bassist Benjamin Orr, both of whom shared lead vocal duties, the classic quintet also featured guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, and drummer David Robinson. The group achieved immense commercial success and MTV stardom throughout the late 1970s and 1980s with a string of definitive hits, including "Just What I Needed," "You Might Think," and the hauntingly melancholic ballad "Drive".
