The Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American psychedelic rock band formed in San Francisco in 1990 by frontman and primary songwriter Anton Newcombe. Known for their prolific output and essential role in the 1990s neo-psychedelia revival, the band famously blends 1960s garage rock, shoegaze, folk, and world music instrumentation. Their history is defined by a rotating lineup of dozens of members, driven by Newcombe’s uncompromising artistic vision and notoriously volatile personality. This turbulent dynamic, along with their intense rivalry and friendship with The Dandy Warhols, was famously captured in the acclaimed 2004 documentary Dig!. Despite commercial mainstream elusion, the band has maintained a fierce cult following and massive critical respect over three decades, releasing over twenty albums and cementing their status as underground indie rock icons.
