Robyn (born Robin Miriam Carlsson in 1979) is a pioneering Swedish singer, songwriter, and DJ hailed as the "stateswoman of alt-pop" for her unique fusion of upbeat electronic dance beats and melancholic lyrics. Raised in Stockholm by theater-director parents, she was discovered at age 14 and captured late-90s global fame with early R&B-pop radio hits like "Show Me Love". Seeking absolute creative control over her image and sound, she famously bought out her major-label contract to launch her independent imprint, Konichiwa Records, in 2005.
