Mazzy Star

Formed in Santa Monica, California, in 1989, Mazzy Star was an influential alternative rock band that emerged from the remnants of the psychedelic group Opal. The band was defined by the collaboration between guitarist David Roback, a key figure in Los Angeles's Paisley Underground scene, and vocalist Hope Sandoval, whose hushed, melancholic delivery became the group's sonic trademark. They achieved massive mainstream success in the mid-1990s with the dreamy, acoustic-driven hit "Fade Into You," from their platinum-certified sophomore album So Tonight That I Might See. Known for their reclusive nature and atmospheric blend of dream pop, folk, and slow-burning psychedelia, the duo released three acclaimed albums in the 1990s before entering a long hiatus. They returned in 2013 with Seasons of Your Day, but the group’s journey effectively concluded following the death of Roback in 2020.
