Phony Soundtracks

Phony is a darkly funny coming-of-age mystery series on Hulu that follows Sonny Cooke (Sam Nivola), a popular high school student who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident only to become convinced that his single mother and closest confidante, Ellen (Connie Britton), has been replaced by an impostor. While his friends and small-town neighbors notice absolutely no change in her appearance, Sonny teams up with a ragtag group of peers to launch a covert investigation into the woman sharing his home. Created by Nick Paley, the show masterfully blurs the lines between reality, paranoia, and shifting family dynamics as a teenager tries to navigate adulthood while questioning the identity of the person he trusted most.
