Alex Wurman (born October 5, 1966) is an Emmy-winning American composer and pianist known for his diverse work across film and television. Raised in a musical family in Chicago, he is the son of Hans Wurman, a pioneer of the Moog synthesizer, and he began playing the instrument as a child before studying at the University of Miami and the American Conservatory of Music. Wurman's professional breakthrough came after moving to Los Angeles, where he initially scored student films at the American Film Institute. He gained widespread acclaim for his evocative score for the Oscar-winning documentary March of the Penguins and won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2010 for his work on the HBO film Temple Grandin. His extensive filmography includes hit comedies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Talladega Nights, as well as television series such as The Newsroom and Patriot.
