Prime Soundtrack (2005): Every Song
Prime (2005) Soundtrack: Full Song List & Credits
Prime is a sophisticated romantic comedy-drama that follows Rafi (Uma Thurman), a recently divorced 37-year-old Manhattan career woman, who unexpectedly falls in love with David (Bryan Greenberg), a talented 23-year-old painter. As Rafi navigates the excitement and challenges of their significant age gap in therapy sessions with her long-time psychiatrist, Dr. Lisa Metzger (Meryl Streep), the plot takes a hilarious and complicated turn when Lisa realizes that her patient’s new, younger boyfriend is actually her own beloved son.
The musical backdrop of Ben Younger’s romantic comedy-drama Prime reflects the sophisticated, slightly chaotic energy of mid-2000s Manhattan. Rather than relying on standard pop hits, the film leans into a blend of underground hip-hop beats, classic jazz, and acoustic folk. Listeners are introduced to the film’s urban atmosphere right from the start through RJD2’s trip-hop track 'Ghostwriter (Remix),' while Stacey Kent's version of 'Isn't This a Lovely Day' sets a lighter, romantic tone.
The complicated relationship between Rafi (Uma Thurman) and the younger painter David (Bryan Greenberg) is framed by some beautiful musical choices. Their intimate moments are underscored by the warm horns of Duke Ellington & John Coltrane's 'In a Sentimental Mood' and the raw, acoustic delivery of Ray LaMontagne's 'Shelter.' As their story reaches its bittersweet conclusion, Rachael Yamagata's performance of 'I Wish You Love' plays over the final scene and credits.

Beyond the romantic melodies, the soundtrack features energetic additions like Le Tigre's electro-punk song 'Fake French' and the iconic 90s hip-hop track 'Get Money' by The Notorious B.I.G. These licensed songs are balanced by Ryan Shore's understated orchestral score, including 'Rafi and David,' which quietly anchors the therapy sessions and relationship conflicts.
