Dark Hollow Soundtrack (2026): Every Song

Written and directed by Daniel Byers, the atmospheric creature-feature horror film Dark Hollow plunges viewers into the isolated, fog-drenched coal country of 1990s West Virginia. Based on a screenplay that garnered top honors at the Austin Film Festival, the film stars June Schreiner in a compelling performance as KC, a fiercely protective young mother striving to keep her family afloat amidst economic decay and abandoned coal shafts. When an ancient, predatory beast is inadvertently awakened from the black depths of a decommissioned mine, the quiet mountain community descends into terror. Balancing raw survival action with grounded Appalachian dread, Byers crafts a claustrophobic monster thriller about familial resilience, territorial trauma, and the dark consequences of industrial exploitation.

Released by Editions Verde alongside the film's theatrical and VOD premiere, the original motion picture soundtrack for Dark Hollow was composed by acclaimed violist and experimental composer Jordan Dykstra. Renowned for his textured acoustic minimalism and unsettling dissonance, Dykstra weaves a 20-track sonic tapestry defined by mournful string drones, bowed acoustic instruments, and industrial rustles that capture the cavernous menace of the Appalachian mines. Key score highlights include the haunting opening theme "Dark Hollow", the visceral dread of "A Monster Among Us", the suffocating ambiance of "Black Lung", and a chilling vocal collaboration with Barbara Byers on "Coal Dust". The score functions as a subterranean heartbeat, amplifying both the oppressive claustrophobia underground and the frantic fight for survival above.
