Water Liars
Water Liars was an American alt-country/rock duo based in Water Valley, Mississippi, formed in 2011 by singer/songwriter Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster and drummer/producer Andrew Bryant. Named after a short story by Barry Hannah, the band was known for its sparse instrumentation,, melancholic songwriting, and a dynamic sound that shifted between hushed, intimate folk and loud, fuzzed-out rock. Releasing three well-regarded albums—Phantom Limb, Wyoming, and their self-titled LP—on Fat Possum’s Big Legal Mess Records, they built a reputation for gritty, emotionally raw narratives centered on themes of love, loss, and personal struggle before parting ways.
