The Strokes

The Strokes are the epitome of NYC cool, a quartet of Brooklynites who burst onto the scene in 2001 with their raw, garage-rock sound and instantly became the darlings of indie rock. Formed by guitarist Nick Valensi, drummer Fabrizio Moretti, bassist Nikolai Fraiture, keyboardist Albert Hammond Jr., and frontman Julian Casablancas, The Strokes' signature style is a masterclass in atmospheric tension and brooding intensity. Their self-titled debut album (2001) set the tone for their future output, with hits like "Hard to Explain" and "Last Nite" showcasing their knack for crafting infectious hooks within a swirl of moody guitars and driving rhythms. As they evolved throughout the 2000s, The Strokes continued to push boundaries with albums like "Room on Fire" (2003), "First Impressions of Earth" (2006), and "Angles" (2011). With each release, their sound expanded to incorporate new textures and influences, from the new wave-infused pop of "Reptilia" to the anthemic rock of "You Only Live Once." The Strokes' most recent output, including 2020's "The New Abnormal," has seen them embracing a more experimental approach, incorporating synthesizers and atmospheric electronica into their sonic palette. Throughout their discography, one constant remains: Julian Casablancas' unmistakable drawl and the band's ability to craft songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.
