The Kinks

Formed in North London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies, The Kinks emerged as one of the most influential and enduring bands of the British Invasion, fundamentally shaping the genres of hard rock and Britpop. They vaulted to fame with the 1964 hit "You Really Got Me," a track often credited with inventing the power chord and paving the way for heavy metal. As the 1960s progressed, Ray Davies’ songwriting evolved into sharp, satirical, and nostalgic social commentary on English life, producing classic albums like The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society and timeless singles such as "Lola" and "Waterloo Sunset." Despite internal friction and a four-year US touring ban at the height of their career, the band achieved lasting success before their 1996 split and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
