The Handsome Family

The Handsome Family is an American "Western Gothic" duo of married songwriters Brett and Rennie Sparks, known for their dark, eerie, yet beautiful music blending country, bluegrass, and folk, with Rennie writing haunting lyrics and Brett composing the melodies, often exploring themes of death, nature, and the strange beauty of the American Southwest where they reside. Formed in Chicago in 1993, they gained wider recognition when their song "Far From Any Road" became the theme for HBO's True Detective, solidifying their distinct sound that draws from medieval melodies, old-timey music, and personal experiences in their Albuquerque home.
