The Cure

Formed in Crawley, England, in 1976 (initially as Easy Cure) and officially debuting as The Cure in 1978, the band emerged from the post-punk scene as a foundational force in alternative rock and gothic rock, led by the melancholic songwriting and iconic look of singer-guitarist Robert Smith, the only constant member throughout their history. Following a moody, atmospheric start with albums like Seventeen Seconds (1980) and Pornography (1982), the band pivotally introduced brighter pop elements into their sound, leading to massive commercial success in the mid-1980s with hits like "Close to Me" and "In Between Days". The 1989 album Disintegration solidified their reputation as arena-filling, emotive rockers, bringing widespread acclaim for moody masterpieces like "Lovesong".
