Steely Dan
Steely Dan, formed by Walter Becker (guitars, bass) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, vocals) at Bard College in 1971, became famous for their sophisticated jazz-rock fusion, blending jazz, funk, R&B, and pop with complex, ironic lyrics and pristine studio production, initially as a touring band but later as a studio-only duo. After achieving major success with albums like Aja (1977) and Gaucho (1980), they disbanded in 1981, only to reunite in the 1990s, continuing with Fagen as the sole consistent member after Becker's death in 2017, touring with a rotating cast of top session musicians.
