Soap&Skin
Soap&Skin is the experimental musical project of Austrian singer-songwriter, producer, and actress Anja Plaschg (born April 5, 1990), known for her intensely emotional, dark ambient, and neoclassical sound. Raised on a pig farm in rural Styria, Plaschg moved to Vienna at 16 to study art, where she quickly garnered acclaim for her haunting piano-driven music, releasing her top-five debut album Lovetune for Vacuum in 2009 at age 18. Heavily influenced by personal tragedy, including the death of her father and struggles with depression, her follow-up album Narrow (2012) topped the Austrian charts. Often likened to artists like Nico or Björk, she has expanded her creative output to include acting, scoring films, and releasing critically praised work such as From Gas to Solid / You Are My Friend (2018) and Torso (2024), frequently blurring the lines between pop, avant-garde, and funeral march-style composition.
