Patti Smith Group
The Patti Smith Group (and Patti Smith herself) emerged from the 1970s New York City punk scene, fusing poetry with raw rock & roll, particularly on her influential 1975 debut album Horses, earning her the title "punk poet laureate" for her literate, gender-bending, and emotionally charged performances. Despite early success, she stepped back in the 80s, only to make a powerful return in the 90s and beyond, celebrated as a multidisciplinary artist, author of acclaimed memoirs like Just Kids, and a lasting pioneer for women in rock.
