Melissa Carper is an American singer-songwriter and double bassist from North Platte, Nebraska, celebrated for her authentic "Hillbillie Holiday" sound that merges vintage country, western swing, and jazz. After years of busking and performing with bands like The Carper Family and Sad Daddy, she achieved solo prominence with her 2021 breakout album Daddy’s Country Gold, followed by the critically acclaimed Ramblin' Soul (2022) and Borned in Ya (2024). An openly queer artist, Carper weaves personal narratives of marginalized communities and everyday resilience into her work, while also leading humanitarian efforts to build the Natural State of Being Farm in Arkansas for those in recovery.
