Liz Phair
Liz Phair is an influential American singer-songwriter and indie rock icon who rose to prominence in the early 1990s with her landmark debut album, Exile in Guyville (1993), a song-by-song feminist response to the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St. Born in 1967 and raised in the Chicago suburbs, she first gained underground attention through her lo-fi "Girly-Sound" cassette tapes before signing with Matador Records. Throughout her career, Phair has navigated both indie acclaim and mainstream pop success, earning Grammy nominations for hits like "Supernova" and "Why Can't I?". Beyond music, she has established herself as a television composer and a critically acclaimed author, publishing her raw and introspective memoir, Horror Stories, in 2019. In recent years, she has continued to build on her legacy, releasing her seventh studio album, Soberish, in 2021 and embarking on high-profile anniversary tours that celebrate her enduring impact on alternative rock.
