Lankum
Lankum is an Dublin-based four-piece band consisting of brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch, Radie Peat, and Cormac MacDiarmada, recognized for redefining Irish traditional music through a dark, experimental, and drone-influenced lens. Originally formed as the experimental folk-punk duo 'Lynched' in the early 2000s, the group expanded in 2012, later changing their name to avoid negative connotations. Signed to Rough Trade Records, they have gained widespread critical acclaim for albums like Between the Earth and Sky (2017) and the Mercury Prize-nominated False Lankum (2023), which blend traditional ballads with haunting, cinematic, and heavy drone soundscapes. Their work is deeply rooted in Irish traditional music while incorporating punk, ambient, and avant-garde influences, making them a major contemporary force in folk.
