Jefferson Starship
Born in 1974 out of the remnants of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship was formed by Paul Kantner and Grace Slick as a more commercially oriented arena-rock successor. The band dominated the mid-to-late 1970s with a string of gold and platinum albums like Red Octopus, fueled by the powerful vocals of Marty Balin and hits like "Miracles" and "With Your Love." Following various lineup shifts and the departure of key members, the group evolved toward a polished pop-rock sound, eventually splintering into the hit-heavy Starship in 1984 after Kantner's legal departure. Despite these transitions, the band was revived in the 1990s and continues to tour today under the leadership of longtime member David Freiberg, preserving the psychedelic legacy and melodic rock craftsmanship of its San Francisco roots.
