In a shocking turn of events, Dexter releases Batista from restraints, only for the detective to launch a vicious attack. But before Batista can do any damage, Prater intervenes with a gunshot that takes down the detective. As Batista lies dying, he delivers a parting shot to Dexter, uttering "Dexter Morgan, you're welcome" - a phrase that leaves our troubled hero feeling enraged and despondent.
