Dropkick Murphys
Dropkick Murphys are a famous American Celtic punk band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1996. Founded by bassist Ken Casey and original singer Mike McColgan, the band famously took their name from a historic Boston-area medical detox facility run by a former professional wrestler. They quickly gained a huge following by mixing aggressive punk rock with traditional Irish folk instruments like bagpipes, tin whistles, and accordions. In 1998, Al Barr took over as the lead singer, helping the group achieve massive commercial success. They became an essential part of Boston sports culture with their massive hit song, "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," and they remain widely respected today for their active charity work and passionate support for working-class labor unions.
