
Don Julian & The Larks
Donald Ray "Don" Julian (1937-1998) was an American R&B/soul singer, songwriter, and bandleader, best known for leading the vocal groups The Meadowlarks, who became The Larks, scoring a major hit with the dance craze song "The Jerk" in 1964, and later composing funk/soul music, including the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film Savage!. Born in Houston, he moved to Los Angeles, formed his integrated vocal group in high school, and after years of R&B success, transitioned to solo work, leaving a legacy in soul and funk music.
