Doechii

Born Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon in Tampa, Florida, the artist known as Doechii has risen from an independent underground phenom to a history-making figure in hip-hop. Raised in a musical and religious household, she developed her performance skills in choir, ballet, and theater at Howard W. Blake High School before launching her career on SoundCloud in 2016. After her single "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" went viral on TikTok in 2021, she became the first female rapper to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2022, subsequently releasing hits like the platinum-certified "What It Is (Block Boy)". Known as the "Swamp Princess" for her deep Florida roots, Doechii's career reached a pinnacle at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where she won Best Rap Album for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, making her only the third woman, following Lauryn Hill and Cardi B, to ever win in that category.
