Depeche Mode
Formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980, Depeche Mode—originally Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher, and Vince Clarke—evolved from synth-pop roots into a seminal alternative electronic band. Following early lineup changes and the addition of Alan Wilder, the band defined their dark, atmospheric sound in the 1980s and 90s with hits like "Enjoy the Silence" and "Personal Jesus". Despite internal struggles and the 2022 passing of Fletcher, the duo of Gahan and Gore continues to record and tour, releasing Memento Mori in 2023. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, they have sold over 100 million records worldwide.
