Daryl Hall & John Oates are the most successful duo in rock history, formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1967. Achieving their greatest fame from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, they pioneered a unique fusion of rock and roll, pop, and rhythm and blues, which they famously termed "blue-eyed soul." Driven by Daryl Hall's powerful, expressive lead vocals and John Oates's sharp songwriting and guitar skills, the duo dominated the music charts with six number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100—including "Rich Girl," "Kiss on My List," "Private Eyes," and "Maneater"—and sold an estimated 40 million records worldwide before their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
