Cigarettes After Sex
An American dream pop band formed in 2008 in El Paso, Texas, by Greg Gonzalez, who serves as lead vocalist and guitarist. Influenced by ambient and slowcore, they produce ethereal tracks on romance, intimacy, and longing, highlighted by Gonzalez's androgynous voice. After moving to Brooklyn, they gained fans through self-released songs on Bandcamp and YouTube. Their 2012 EP I. included the hit "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby," popularized via media. This led to their acclaimed 2017 debut album and global tours. They followed with Cry in 2019 for personal tales, then X's in 2024, focusing on heartbreak with songs like "Tejano Blue" and "Dark Vacay." Current lineup: Gonzalez, bassist Randall Miller, and drummer Jacob Tomsky. Key tracks like "Apocalypse" (over 2 billion streams by 2025) and 2025 singles "The Crystal Ship" and "Anna Karenina" affirm their popularity. As of 2026, they tour internationally with intimate, dreamy performances.
