Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz on February 19, 1998 in Willard, Missouri) is an American singer and songwriter celebrated for her theatrical pop style, camp aesthetics, and unapologetic embrace of queer culture. Raised in a strict, conservative Christian household, she taught herself piano and began uploading song covers to YouTube as a teenager, eventually signing with Atlantic Records at age 17. After adopting her stage name—honoring her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, and his favorite song, "The Strawberry Roan"—she released her debut EP School Nights in 2017. Though dropped by her label following the initial 2020 release of her cult-favorite breakout single "Pink Pony Club," Roan persevered as an independent artist in Los Angeles. Teaming up with producer Dan Nigro, she experienced a meteoric rise to mainstream superstardom with the 2023 release of her critically acclaimed debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, major festival performances like Coachella, and opening slots on Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour.
