Annie Lennox
Born on Christmas Day 1954 in Aberdeen, Scotland, Annie Lennox is a celebrated singer-songwriter and activist who first achieved global superstardom in the 1980s as the lead singer of the synth-pop duo Eurythmics. Alongside partner Dave Stewart, she became a cultural icon known for her powerful contralto voice and striking, androgynous image, producing timeless hits like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)". After Eurythmics, she launched a formidable solo career with the multi-platinum 1992 album Diva, featuring singles like "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass," eventually selling over 80 million records worldwide. A highly decorated artist, she has earned eight Brit Awards, four Grammys, and an Academy Award for "Into the West" from The Lord of the Rings. Beyond music, Lennox is a dedicated humanitarian and was appointed an OBE for her tireless work in HIV/AIDS awareness and women's rights through her charity, The Circle.
