Anika

Born in 1987 in Surrey, England, Anika (born Annika Henderson) is a British-German musician, composer, and poet known for her distinctively deadpan, "Nico-esque" vocals and experimental sound. Before her music career began, she worked as a political journalist between Berlin and Bristol, a background that continues to inform her confrontational and socially conscious lyrics. She rose to cult fame in 2010 with her eponymous debut album, a collaboration with Geoff Barrow (of Portishead) and his band Beak> that blended dub, post-punk, and 60s girl-group aesthetics. Beyond her solo work, including the acclaimed 2021 album Change and 2025's Abyss, she has led the Mexico City-based experimental-psych band Exploded View and collaborated with a diverse range of artists like Tricky, Dave Clarke, and Jim Jarmusch. Her multidisciplinary practice also extends to film, photography, and radio hosting, often performing soundscapes for live art installations globally.
