Rachel Anne McAdams (born November 17, 1978) is a Canadian actress celebrated for her versatility across romantic dramas, high-energy comedies, and gritty character studies. Raised in St. Thomas, Ontario, she was a competitive figure skater before earning a BFA in theatre from York University in 2001. She achieved global stardom in 2004 with back-to-back iconic roles as the "Queen Bee" Regina George in Mean Girls and Allie Hamilton in the romantic classic The Notebook. Following a brief hiatus, she returned to lead major blockbusters like Sherlock Holmes (2009) and The Vow (2012) while garnering an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of journalist Sacha Pfeiffer in the 2015 drama Spotlight. In recent years, McAdams has expanded her repertoire with her role as Christine Palmer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lead in the HBO series True Detective, and a Tony-nominated Broadway debut in Mary Jane (2024).
