Michelle Marie Pfeiffer, born April 29, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, is a celebrated American actress and producer known for her versatility and ability to balance vulnerability with inner strength. After gaining initial notice in Grease 2 (1982), she achieved mainstream stardom with her breakthrough performance as Elvira Hancock in the crime drama Scarface (1983). Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Pfeiffer became one of Hollywood’s most bankable and critically acclaimed stars, earning three Academy Award nominations for her roles in Dangerous Liaisons (1988), The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), for which she won a Golden Globe, and Love Field (1992). Her portrayal of Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992) remains one of the most iconic performances in superhero cinema. After a deliberate hiatus in the early 2000s to prioritize her family, she successfully returned to the screen with diverse projects, including the musical Hairspray (2007), the psychological thriller Mother! (2017), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Janet van Dyne. Most recently, she garnered acclaim for her leading role in French Exit (2020) and her portrayal of Betty Ford in the anthology series The First Lady (2022).
