Mary Steenburgen (b. 1953), an accomplished American actress, singer, and comedian, rose to fame after her 1978 debut in Jack Nicholson’s Goin' South. She won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Melvin and Howard (1980), establishing a prolific career in films like Parenthood and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Originally from Arkansas, she studied at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse.
