Joaquin Phoenix
Joaquin Phoenix is a highly acclaimed American actor and activist, celebrated for his intense, transformative performances in both independent films and major blockbusters. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in a family of performers—including his late brother, River Phoenix—he began his career as a child actor under the name Leaf Phoenix before stepping away from the spotlight following River's tragic death in 1993. He returned to acting with a breakout performance in To Die For (1995) and reached international stardom as the villainous Commodus in Gladiator (2000), a role that earned him his first Academy Award nomination. Over the following decades, Phoenix cemented his reputation for portraying complex, often dark characters in films such as Walk the Line (2005), where he played Johnny Cash, The Master (2012), and Her (2013), eventually winning the Oscar for Best Actor for his lead role in Joker (2019). Outside of Hollywood, he is a dedicated vegan and a prominent advocate for animal rights, frequently using his platform to support environmental and ethical causes.
